David Rovics, the man behind “Songs of Social Significance,” is a widely respected progressive folk singer in the United States. Rovics is coming to Palestine to show his solidarity with the Palestinian cause, and perform to the Palestinian people in Jenin, Nablus, Ramallah, Jerusalem, and Gaza. He is stopping in Amman to perform one concert before embarking on his first concert tour in Palestine!
His numerous songs about Palestine narrate the Palestinian story, detailing the history, the suffering, the violation of human rights, and the dreams and hopes for a better tomorrow. He sings about the devastation of the Jenin refugee camp, the refugees who are waiting to return home, the monstrous Apartheid Wall, about Palestinian children and how they get shot, about Sabra and Shatila, Rachel Corrie, and more. Despite all this, Rovics also shares the Palestinian hopes for peace and a better tomorrow - well expressed in his song “In One World.”
Rovics also sings about the Iraqi plight, about social justice issues worldwide, and against war and empire. His lyrics are hard-hitting: some will make you cry, others will make you laugh. His performances are always memorable, and this promises to be an exciting evening not to be missed!
This event will help support the Palestine concert tour, Rovics’ show of solidarity with the Palestinian people and struggle. All proceeds from ticket sales go towards funding that, and if anything is left over, it will be used towards releasing a new CD “Live in Palestine.” Most of the Palestine concerts will be free, especially those in refugee camps, so your ticket purchase will help make all that possible. CDs and t-shirts will be available for purchase at the event.
