A multi-national company has hired private security to walk staff to their cars after a female employee was abducted and robbed at knifepoint.
Two other employees also reported being followed, according to a director of the company, which is based in the Dubai Convention Centre. The woman noticed two men following her as she walked to her car, according to a co-worker.
She walked into another building and tried to call a friend, but the men snatched her mobile and marched her to her car at knifepoint. She was pushed into the back seat and the men drove off.
They stripped her of her watch, wallet and other jewellery before stopping her car and escaping in another vehicle.
Yesterday the company’s 300 staff were briefed on new security measures, which include private security guards escorting employees to their cars and floodlights.
Security guards will be stationed on every floor of the building. A director of the company, which 7DAYS chose not to name, said last night: “The employee was abducted and driven around three or four kilometres in her own car before being robbed and left.
“She decided not to call the police and that is her right.” He said earlier this year there had been two reports of staff members being followed at night as they walked to their cars, but no attacks happened.
His company had spoken to security managers at the Dubai Convention Centre at the time. “After this latest incident, we spoke to them again and made our concerns known. We have hired security and guards now walk staff from the office to their cars at night,” he added.
