flickr is blocked in the UAE: My Complaint

November 23, 2005

I’ve just sent them a compaint:

Sir,

I appreciate your continuous efforts to protect the Internet audience from any abusive actions.

flickr.com is one of the most useful photo tools in the World Wide, in fact it might be the best. I’m one of many users who benefits from it, and who want it to be back as soon as possible as the bad behavior of some should not trigger what i see as a collective punishment.

And what a concidence! from 22nd of Nov to the 23rd the Online Journalism Conference is being held at the Sharjah University.

Blocking flickr and similar sites is defintely a step backward in a country that supports technology and Internet, and a sad thing to your loyal customers.

We’ll see if they care.

Lucky

Mean Mr. Mustard says he’s bored
of life in The District.
He can’t afford the French Quarter high
says it gets old real quick
and he pales up next to me
and scrawled on the pavement
It says: Son, time is all the luck
you need.

And if I stay lucky then my tongue will stay tied
And I won’t betray the things that I hide.
There’s not enough years underneath this belt
for me to admit the way that I felt.

Mean Mr. Mustard says don’t be
the wave that crashes
From a sea of discontent, he says
he’s wrestled with that blanket…
It leaves you cold and wet
any way you stretch it
Divine apathy! Disease of my youth
watch that you don’t catch it

And if I stay lucky then my tongue will stay tied
And I won’t betray the things that I hide
There’s not enough years underneath this belt
For me to admit the way that I felt

I’m the wave that crashes
From the sea that turns itself
inside out every chance i get to
see what it’s like in hell

And if I stay lucky then my tongue will stay tied
And I won’t betray the things that I hide
There’s not enough years underneath this belt
For me to admit the way that I felt
