Hebron Students Protest Against the Electronic Gate
November 24, 2005
Israeli military forces in Hebron fired gas canisters and percussion grenades at demonstrating elementary school students for the third consecutive day on Thursday.
Scores of students and teachers from the Ibrahimia and Al Fayha schools in Hebron’s Old City district commenced protests on Monday when Israeli forces indicated that they would be forced through recently installed electronic gates and X-Ray screening systems. Citing health hazards of frequent exposure to radiation produced by the scanners, the city’s education director suspended classes.
On Wednesday, teachers taught students in the streets around the schools.
Hebron Education Director Mohammed Al Qawasmeh indicated that by Thursday afternoon classes had resumed in the schools despite the continued presence of the gate and X-Ray systems.
