Bitterness imprisons life; love releases it. Bitterness paralyzes life; love empowers it. Bitterness sours life; love sweetens it. Bitterness sickens life; love heals it. Bitterness blinds life; love anoints its eyes.

Marriage and Social Class

September 20, 2005

Based on an online discussion supported by a poll, the new promising (or not so promising) generation of Arab women see marriage as a) the responsibility of the man not the woman, women are basically the object not the subject in this relatoinship and hence the potential groom’s family background, his bank account and his personal history are critical b) should only take them forwards in the social ledder (whatever that might mean) and this should be guaranteed beforehand c) marriage should be synonym with butterflies flying up to the pinky horizons which can be seen during journeys to Paris and shopping in Milano and can be happily substituted by total isolation from the in-laws. Anything less than that is misery, failure and idealism d) Its OK to marry someone from a higher social class because he will pull her up with him but its not true vice versa

It was surprising seeing that education made from some of greedy, superfacial and arrogant people! It is sad that many supposedly open-minded educated young ladies think of marriage as an unevitable event rather than a long journey with a friend that we love…
I don’t know since when our financial status decides on our friends, associates and partners?
Last time I checked, its our ability to love and care that earned us loyal loving and caring friends not their financial position neither ours.

Women are not followers of anyone, no one should be a follower in fact.Wives and mothers have always had the greatest influence on their families, and its not fair for men to provide a LIFE for women in exchange for emotional and sexual stability (even though they can’t be guaranteed this much!), as well as insulting to women’s intellect, value and giving nature. What happened to sharing individual dreams and facing life together?

See the poll and read more on this, if interested, here.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

September 11, 2005

“How happy is the blameless Vestal’s lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray’r accepted, and each wish resign’d”

When I watched the movie I can’t deny that my head hurt too bad, for I kept thinking, this is what soul mates are all about. If there’s anything such as soul mates. And this is what I always hope for, starting each day like there was no yesterday, to be born again each single day. I forget a lot, and maybe thats the problem, while I forget and detach everybody seems to remember and connect.

I think the reason why most of us are unable to forget is because whatever we do we do according to a plan, after throughly thinking about it,we prepare to it even the things we say, we take our time thinking or we simply memorize. Thats why we expect others to be DEAD serious about everything, its because we are.

The older we get the more boring we become. We are told that spontaneity is bad, very bad. And whatever we do or say is always held against us in one way or another.

I don’t buy this…I try but it’s not working for me. I suffer from bad memory, selectively bad memory.

I’m truely sorry…

July 23, 2005

I don’t know why or to who should I direct my apologies but I’m deeply sorry. The news were more than shocking, I’m afraid there’s no longer a light at the end of this tunnel, not when murder is justified liked this, not when cold-blooded killing is done in the name of God.

Haitham talked to God about how he feels, and it made me wonder why is this happening to us?…Is there is anything one can do?

“Your brothers, the holy warriors of the martyr Abd Allah Azzam Brigades succeeded in launching a smashing attack on the Crusaders, Zionists and the renegade Egyptian regime in Sharm al-Shaikh,” the statement read.

“We reaffirm that this operation was in response to the crimes committed by the forces of international evil, which are spilling the blood of Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan and Chechnya.

“We declare it loud and clear that we will not be frightened by the whips of the Egyptian torturers and we will not tolerate violation of our brothers’ land of Sinai,” the statement added in an apparent reference to tourists who travel from neighbouring Israel to Sinai Peninsula for holidays.

Delusion

July 22, 2005

“I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there’s no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you’ve got to rise above

So the good boys and girls take the so called right track
Faded white hats
Grabbing credits
Maybe transfers
They read all the books but they can’t find the answers
And all of our parents
They’re getting older
I wonder if they’ve wished for anything better”

“They painted up your secrets
With the lies they told to you
And the least they ever gave you
Was the most you ever knew

And I wonder where these dreams go
When the world gets in your way
What’s the point in all this screaming
No one’s listening anyway

Your voice is small and fading
And you hide in here unknown
And your mother loves your father
‘Cause she’s got nowhere to go

And she wonders where these dreams go
‘Cause the world got in her way
What’s the point in ever trying
Nothing’s changing anyway

They press their lips against you
And you love the lies they say
And I tried so hard to reach you
But you’re falling anyway

And you know I see right through you
When the world gets in your way
What’s the point in all this screamin’
You’re not listening anyway ”

Somebody out there is a big fat liar, somebody is deceiving us, its a lie, all are lies and I’m happy because I no longer care, because I’m just another “nobody”…

You draw a picture, you trick them by always looking through the frames, they think you’re still bounded by the edges of your frame but the truth is, you carry your frame wherever you go; you feel a little safe and they shut the hell up.

Is corruption in our blood?

July 13, 2005

I don’t know where to start. I’ll make it short, I promise.

I need to study one more course in Marketing in order to graduate inshallah this summer but none of the courses I can take is offered. Since I’m expected to graduate I have the right of being excepted and taking just any marketing course (but only 3 courses are available and all of them I’ve already taken). So…since registeration has started on the 30th of April I’ve been trying to talk to the head of the management department but he’s always not available. I could find him only once and I talked to him and he promised to solve this and asked me not to worry at all, but then nothing happened at all.

After I was done with my finals I didn’t rest, until now I’ve been up each morning heading to the uni waiting for him to come. And by the way all of them are not on their desks on time, often 2 or 3 hours late that is if they showed up! I tried calling but nobody answers, finally he answered one day and he said he’s not sure he can do something about it because the number of students will be very little if any , which is not what he said to me at first, he could have told me before when all the staff was still available now many of them are on vacation, I could have talked to our head of MIS department and registered for the internship but no he had to make things complicated and hard because of his carelessness. He said I can call him later the next day but when I did he didn’t answer, also he didn’t answer the day after! and I could find nobody to talk to because it seems like everyone is on vacation except for the Chair Person and few others. I emaild that doctor before by the way, before I call and till now I received nothing. Two days ago I emailed the Chair Person and also no response. Makes me wonder why on earth do they have emails? why give them computers and telephones? why do they pay them in the first place????

The same doctor attended only 3 or 4 classes during this whole semester! he was busy with conferences I guess, but thats not the students’ problem now is it?!

You can sense the unbelievable carlesness and laziness, wallah I can understand if they weren’t proffessors and principles but if our most educated people are like that then how can we blame others?

They act like lazy spoiled potato couchs not like responsible people who are paid to do their damn jobs. I forgot to mention the way they talk to you if they answered beeji 3abali a2olhom ana asfe inni 2ala2t manam 7adretak/7adretek (and thats for both instructers and secretaries!)

Laziness and and uncalled for arrogance, thats what we are when we’re given a little responsibility and control over others.

On Criticism

July 2, 2005

When you crticize don’t criticize their persons but rather the the things they’ve said, or the things they’ve done for if you criticize them then your disagreements with them has blinded you and you no longer are able to love them.

Criticize a person because you want the best for them not because they are different. Criticize when critisizm is needed, when offering your opinion might change a course of action, offer a new solution to a problem or a better view of things, other than that please don’t bother!

Before you say anything ask yourself why do you want to citicize? and if you were in their shoes, how would you see this? is it positive? do you see the whole picture and know enough to actually disagree and point out fingers?

If yes then go ahead, criticize with love ;)

Two Types of People

June 21, 2005

Some people used to have big dreams when they were but children, they grew up pittying themselves crying over their lost chances and their bad luck, though they hadn’t made enough efforts to claim the right to fulfill their dreams. They accept whatever comes their way…

Some people used to have simple dreams that with time have grown big, instead of taking advantage of what they have and focus on their present they think of what they don’t have, what is bigger than what they have. They want to make their destiney.

No Second Chances for Women

June 4, 2005

No this is not inspired by Issam’s topic about second chances.

It happened that I heard of a man who in the meantime is getting a divorce from his ex-wife, they’ve been married for about 10 years. The same guy is also living the sweetest love story nowadays, he’s extremly happy, simply put he’s so in love. Nothing is sweeter than two persons in love but thats not why I’m writing this. The question I asked myself after hearing about that guy is, why women are not given second chances? Why are they always the giver and never the taker?

You may think my questions are irrelevant but they are totally relevant, valid and it makes sense to think about them. In our culture divorced men have no problem marrying again, not only just marry but fall in love and perhaps marry a much younger woman than themselves. Divorced women…well, don’t get me started.

A non-virgin guy will have a normal life, get married and have kids (I’m not against that I’m only pointing out the double standards!). A woman who committed adultery or even if she was raped is basically a dead-woman (that is if her family did not kill her to cleansen their honor).

No second chances for women, sometimes no first chances either.
